MOTION EXPLORATION

The Gates

A study of time in flux. Exploring past, present, and future through culturally significant symbols, this project visualizes moments of upheaval and transition.

I created consistent, high-performing campaign visuals within
an established product ecosystem

Overview

Since 1991, the Kyrgyz Republic has experienced three coups — each promising change, yet echoing the last. The image of people scaling the gates of the Kyrgyz Parliament repeats across time. After the third breach in 2020, the gates were removed — a gesture shaped by memory and unrest.

This project sits within that cycle.

eBay operates at a massive scale, with campaigns constantly evolving. This project focused on bringing clarity and consistency to high-volume campaign execution and cross-channel system application

Gates function as symbols of power, and the act of pushing against them echoes across revolutions — from Iran to France to Vietnam.

This project excavates my story within the rubble of revolution, examining the Kyrgyz Republic’s recurring cycles of upheaval and the fragile promises of political change.

Onsite Explorations

I was in the country during this time, documenting the gates and the aftermath of the 2020 coup in Kyrgyzstan. Experiencing it firsthand shaped the visual direction of this project.

Campaigns were delivered on a rolling basis
in two-week sprints. Working closely with account managers, copywriters, and the creative lead, I translated campaign briefs into clear, engaging visual layouts that supported product storytelling and conversion.

Final Result

The audio layers footage from the 2005, 2010, and 2020 coups: voices, chants, fragments of unrest.

The final chant, from 2020, calls out “Sadyr,” the current president — folding past and present into one moment.

It leaves an open question: how do these moments relate across time?
